Primary objectives
Outcome
To establish a childhood Takayasu Arteritis (TA) registry that consists of south Africa, India and south-eastern Asia where it has been stated to be more prevalent.
To compare western data obtained from EULAR/PRINTO/PReS study recently performed and Asia and Africa regarding demographical, clinical features and response to different treatment modalities.
Secondary objectives
Epidemiology
To define the frequency of TA in eastern countries especially around Silk Road.
To investigate the relationship between TA and some infectious agents such as tuberculosis which has been demonstrated to have a high correlation with TA.
To provide awareness of this treatable chronic disease which is hard to diagnose until clinical manifestations are overt among physicians.
Diagnosis
To define and compare different imaging tools and their sensitivity and specificity about diagnosis of childhood TA.
Treatment
To assess and compare the treatments and outcomes of treatments used in the management of childhood TA.
To define complications of the disease in treated and untreated cases.
Outcome
To develop standardized approach in clinical assessment of childhood TA.
